An Open Letter from Eli Tomac to Ken Roczen, the Fans, and the Entire Supercross and Motocross Community
Dear Ken, Fans, and the Entire Supercross and Motocross Family,
I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on what has been an incredible chapter in our sport. As we head into the new year, I wanted to take a moment to address Ken Roczen, the fans who have supported us through thick and thin, and the entire motocross and supercross community that feels like family. As athletes, we’ve shared the highs and lows of the sport, pushing ourselves to limits others can’t even imagine. It’s not easy, but it’s a journey worth every moment.
Ken, from one racer to another, I want to say how much I admire your tenacity and resilience. The road you’ve traveled hasn’t been easy, but you’ve proven time and time again that you’re not just a champion on the bike, but a fighter off it too. We’ve both had our share of struggles and challenges, but your ability to rise above adversity and perform at the highest level, despite everything, is something that should never be taken for granted.
Our rivalry on the track has been fierce, but it’s always been rooted in respect. We’ve both worked incredibly hard to get to where we are, and we’ve both endured our fair share of pain, setbacks, and sacrifices. Yet, there’s a bond that exists between us as competitors that transcends the results of any race. It’s the understanding that we are in this together — that we’re all chasing the same thing, that feeling of conquering the next challenge, whether it’s an event, a season, or a career.
To the fans, thank you. Your unwavering support is what drives us to give our best, even when things aren’t going as planned. You cheer for us when we’re at the top, but more importantly, you continue to cheer for us when we’re down. Supercross and motocross wouldn’t be the same without your passion, energy, and love for the sport. It’s not just about the races; it’s about the community we’ve all built around this incredible sport. From the pits to the grandstands, there’s an undeniable bond we share.
I want to take a moment to acknowledge the sacrifices our families and loved ones make, too. Behind every rider is a support system that often goes unnoticed. From the early mornings to the late nights, the long hours of travel and preparation, it’s our families who make it possible for us to chase our dreams. To my family, thank you for everything you’ve done and continue to do.
As I look forward to the future of Supercross and Motocross, I want to remind everyone of the importance of unity within our community. The battles we fight on the track are fierce, but we must remember that we are all pushing towards a greater purpose: to grow and elevate the sport for the next generation. Whether you’re a fan, a rider, a team member, or someone behind the scenes, you’re a crucial part of what makes motocross and supercross so special. Together, we keep this sport alive, vibrant, and growing.
To the younger riders coming up, remember that success is not just about talent. It’s about determination, resilience, and the ability to keep going when it feels impossible. Ken, I’ve watched you embody all of those traits throughout your career, and I know you’ll continue to inspire riders for years to come. And to all the fans, thank you for continuing to support us — your passion fuels our drive to be better every day.
Motocross and supercross are more than just races; they are a way of life. And I’m proud to be part of this community, alongside riders like Ken Roczen, with fans who share our passion, and with families who stand behind us every step of the way. Here’s to the challenges ahead, the lessons we will learn, and the victories we’ll share — together.
Thank you all.
Sincerely,
Eli Tomac
