Open Letter from Ricky Carmichael to Jett Lawrence, Fans, and the Entire Supercross and Motocross Community
Dear Jett, Fans, and the Motocross and Supercross Community,
As I sit down to write this letter, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey this sport has taken me on. The highs, the lows, the sweat, the tears, and the unrelenting passion for motocross and supercross. It’s a bond that ties us all together, whether we’re athletes, fans, or members of the industry. And it’s with that same passion that I write this open letter to someone who has captured the hearts of so many — Jett Lawrence.
First and foremost, Jett, I want to acknowledge the tremendous talent you possess. It’s not just about how fast you go or the technical skills you display on the track — it’s about the heart and soul you put into every ride. Watching you race is like watching the next generation of superstars come to life. You have a natural talent that is undeniable, but it’s your mindset, your confidence, and your character that truly set you apart. At just 20 years old, you’ve already achieved so much, and you’re still just scratching the surface of what you can accomplish. You’ve already captured multiple championships, and it’s clear that you’re just getting started.
But what stands out to me even more than your incredible riding is the way you’ve embraced the responsibility that comes with being a role model. As a former champion in the sport, I know firsthand how much pressure comes with success, and how easy it is to get lost in the noise. Yet, you’ve managed to stay grounded, respectful, and authentic. Your relationship with your fans is something that many riders in the past have struggled with, but you’ve built a loyal, global following by staying true to yourself and connecting with your audience on a personal level.
To the fans, this is your time. You’ve been witness to something special — a new era in our sport. The energy you bring, the love you show, and the dedication you have for supercross and motocross have created an atmosphere unlike any other. You are the heartbeat of this community, and your passion fuels the riders and the sport as a whole. It’s because of you that we have a platform to showcase our love for two wheels and dirt. You cheer, you cry, you celebrate, and you stand behind the athletes who give everything they have to perform for you. Without fans like you, the sport wouldn’t be where it is today.
I’ve watched the sport evolve over the years, and there’s something undeniably exciting about the direction it’s heading. The level of talent and competition in both supercross and motocross has never been higher. Riders like Jett, who not only have incredible skill but also an understanding of the mental aspect of racing, are pushing the boundaries of what we once thought was possible.
