Reanne Evans’ Letter to Ronnie O’Sullivan
Dear Ronnie,
I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on everything that’s happened in recent months, and I feel it’s finally time to put my thoughts into words. I’ve always admired you, not just as a champion on the table but as a person. And I wanted to take a moment to let you know just how much your influence has meant to me, both professionally and personally.
First and foremost, I need to thank you for your support. It might seem small to some, but for me, it’s been invaluable. Your belief in me, your guidance when I needed it most, and the moments of advice you’ve shared—these are things I will carry with me forever. You’ve been such a source of inspiration throughout my career, and I’ve watched you with awe, especially as you’ve faced challenges with such grace and strength. There are no words to truly express how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to share a stage with you.
You’ve always been this enigma, so effortlessly talented, yet so humble about it. Every time you step up to the table, it’s like watching a master at work—a performance that transcends the sport. The way you control the game, the pace, the atmosphere—it’s magic. But beyond the tricks you pull off with a cue, it’s the mental fortitude and the passion for the game that sets you apart. It’s something I’ve always strived to learn from. I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that watching you is like a clinic in how to approach snooker, how to remain calm under pressure, and how to fight for every ball, no matter what.
Over the years, I’ve come to realize that your legacy isn’t just about the titles and accolades you’ve amassed. Sure, the records and championships are remarkable, but it’s your influence on the game, the way you’ve pushed boundaries and inspired the next generation, that makes you a true legend. You’ve helped transform snooker from a niche sport into a captivating spectacle, and for that, I think every player, myself included, owes you a great debt.
But beyond snooker, I’ve come to admire your authenticity. The way you’re unapologetically yourself—how you’ve never been afraid to speak your mind, to stand up for what you believe in, even when it hasn’t been the most popular stance. You’ve taught me that being true to oneself is something worth fighting for, regardless of what others might say or think. And that, for me, has been one of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned—not just as a player, but as a person.
We’ve had our share of moments over the years—both competitive and personal—and I wouldn’t change any of them. I’ve always respected your drive, your discipline, and your ability to bounce back from setbacks. You’ve never let the pressure get to you. In fact, it’s almost like you thrive under it, which is something I admire deeply. Your resilience is something I aspire to, and it’s been a guiding light for me when I’ve faced my own struggles.
I know we both share the same love for this sport, and our journeys, while different, have been marked by a passion that is unmatched. But I also know that we’ve both had our fair share of ups and downs, both on and off the table. And in those moments when I’ve doubted myself, when I’ve questioned whether I could keep going, it’s been the quiet moments of encouragement from people like you that have kept me going. You’ve always had this way of seeing the bigger picture, of reminding me that the journey is just as important as the destination.
Ronnie, thank you for being there for me. Thank you for being the kind of person who leads by example, who shows us what it means to be both humble and great. I can’t express enough how much your friendship and mentorship have meant to me. I look forward to every moment we share on the table, and I hope there are many more to come. But no matter what, I’ll always carry the lessons you’ve taught me with me.
