The Green Bay Packers announced Wednesday that cornerback Jaire Alexander has been placed on the

reserve/suspended list for one NFL game due to conduct detrimental to the team.

The move comes after Alexander had inserted himself to be part of the coin toss ahead of the Packers’ game against

the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, despite not being a team captain – and his efforts almost led to a catastrophic

disaster for a club trying to compete for a postseason spot.

Alexander disrupted the coin toss during the Packers’ 33-30 away victory over the Panthers.

After the Packers won the coin toss, Alexander stated that Green Bay preferred to play defense, which is not the same

as choosing to delay.

The referee then had to explain what Alexander had decided on behalf of Green Bay. Without the referee’s

intervention in questioning whether Alexander meant to defer rather than defend, Carolina would have received the

football to start both halves.

After the game, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that Alexander made “a big mistake.”

Meanwhile, Alexander showed little remorse Sunday, telling reporters after the game that he wanted to be out there

because he is from Charlotte.

“The decision to suspend a player is never easy and is not one we take lightly,” Packers general manager Brian

Gutekunst said in a statement when the punishment was announced Wednesday.

“Unfortunately, Jaire’s behavior prior to the game in Carolina prompted us to take this measure. “As an organization,

we expect everyone to prioritize the team,” Gutekunst continued.

“While we are unhappy, we had a fantastic talk with Jaire this morning and fully anticipate him to learn from our

experience as we move forward together. We look forward to welcoming him back next week since he is appreciated.
