The San Francisco 49ers appear to be adding another name to their coaching staff, as former adversary KJ Wright
joins the Red and Gold.
The former Seattle Seahawks linebacker announced on his podcast, KJ All Day, that he will be the 49ers’ assistant
linebackers and defensive quality control coach. Wright explained why he chose to begin his coaching career in San
Francisco, and expressed gratitude for the chance.
“I am quite excited. I am ecstatic about this opportunity. “I’m really, really happy for the Niners organization to
believe in me and trust me with their franchise,” KJ Wright said on Monday. “My first NFL game was against the
Niners, and I’ve been competing against them since then.”To Kyle Shanahan, John Lynch, and the 49ers faithful, I’m
enthusiastic and ready to go; this is going to be a lot of fun.”
KJ Wright, 34, is a former Pro Bowl linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks. He was a member of the Legion of Boom,
the Birds’ top-ranked defense throughout the 2010s. Nick Sorensen, the 49ers’ new defensive coordinator, was part
of that group as a coach and is now bringing his former pupil to Santa Clara.
Wright played in the NFL for 11 seasons, totaling 992 tackles. He also recorded 68 tackles for loss, 27 quarterback
hits, and 54 pass breakups. After a decade in the Pacific Northwest, the Mississippi native will retire from the NFL
with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2021.
Wright was a tremendously accomplished player, but his primary passion is coaching.
“My passion is in coaching; my heart is in creating something unique. Teamwork, camaraderie, navigating the ups
and downs, and devising a strategy for success. Like, this is what I do, and I’ve been asked to do it.” Wright stated.
The San Francisco 49ers have not made any official announcements at this time.
