D’Andre Swift, a free agency running back, did not stay on the market long.
Swift and the Chicago Bears reached an agreement on Monday to sign a three-year, $24 million contract, according
to agent Trevon Smith. The contract includes $15.3 million in guaranteed funds.
The agreement was initially reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
The agreement comes after Schefter earlier stated that the Bears were “expected to make a major push” to sign the
former Philadelphia Eagles running back.
Swift, 25, had an outstanding year in 2023, reaching a career best in running yards (1,049) while also catching 39
passes for 214 yards and six total touchdowns. That gave him his first Pro Bowl selection.
He played his first three seasons with Detroit, playing in the backfield alongside Adrian Peterson and Jamaal
Williams. He’s frequently been the lightning to a thunderous option in a running back platoon, and even in
Philadelphia, Kenny Gainwell received consistent action despite Swift plainly being the best option.
He should be a significant upgrade in Chicago over Roschon Johnson (352 rushing yards and two touchdowns last
season), Khalil Herbert (611 rushing yards, two touchdowns), and D’Onta Foreman (425 rushing yards, four
touchdowns).
The main concern in Chicago, of course, is whether Swift will line up next to incumbent quarterback Justin Fields or
a youngster like Caleb Williams, whom the organization may select with the first overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft.
No team is more intriguing this offseason than the Bears.
Running back is the most fascinating position in free agency. Two big names have already been signed, with former
Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard reportedly agreeing to a three-year, $24 million contract with the
Tennessee Titans on Monday.
Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, Derrick Henry, and Austin Ekeler are the four most available players at the position
heading into the offseason.
