Checo Perez discusses the intense pressure at Red Bull:
Checo Perez is aware that his Red Bull seat is at jeopardy during the 2024 season, and the Mexican has two second-place finishes thus far.
However, his Achilles heel is still qualifying, which means he is still under pressure at the team, and Perez has opened out about it.
He started fifth in Bahrain and third in Saudi Arabia, although Max Verstappen claimed pole in both races. He did not stand out on those two Saturdays, but he also did not squander his weekends by doing a good enough job to stay in the hunt.
The next day, he improved enough to fall behind the unreachable Max Verstappen. He now ranks second in the overall rankings with 36 points. In other words, he is 15 points behind his teammate, who is on track for his fourth consecutive championship.
Regardless, his start has helped him remain cool. Checo understands that if he had failed, he would be under pressure right now, and the Milton Keynes squad is unique in this respect. Everyone understands how the environment works, which Perez acknowledges when asked about the issue that has claimed many previous drivers.
“There is always pressure in Formula One; it is a part of competing in the elite,” Perez told Beyond The Grid. “You have to perform in all conditions and races; that is natural.
“But at Red Bull, things are different. There’s a reason why so many drivers have died here. This team under more pressure. Red Bull’s demands differ from those of other teams.”
At 34 years old, he has seen everything in the circus, but it was not in vain.
He formerly worked with Sauber, McLaren, Force India, and Racing Point before joining Red Bull in 2021. The truth is that Checo can only “give his all” and prepare “the best he can”. He is clear that he must strive to accomplish his job perfectly.
“The outside noise will always be there,” Perez explained. “You can’t do anything about it. However, you must ensure that you can block it out.
