According to Boston Red Sox broadcaster Lou Merloni, he does not believe manager Alex Cora will return to the

Boston Red Sox broadcaster Lou Merloni does not believe manager Alex Cora will return to the team in 2025.

He made the remarks on ‘The Greg Hill Show’ on WEEI in Boston on Thursday morning. Merloni also stated that if

the Los Angeles Dodgers do not win the World Series this season and replace Dave Roberts as manager, Cora would

be an ideal candidate.

Alex Cora is in the last year of his contract with the Red Sox. Given where managerial compensation have gone (due

to Craig Counsell, as Merloni mentions), Cora is on track for a payoff in 2025. Does he just want to hit the open

market after the season and see what’s available?

Do the Red Sox want to pay him at that rate? Cora has the upper hand in this situation. If the team wants him, the

rate is set. If the team fails, he enters the market, with 29 other teams to potentially choose from.

The Red Sox appear to be perpetually rebuilding. Is Cora drawn to a continually changing roster, or does he prefer to

go with an established champion in the offseason?

If the Dodgers decide to replace Roberts, Cora is a strong candidate. He has won a World Series (2018) with the Red

Sox and previously played for the Dodgers, thus he is well-known among fans.

Cora has a 440-370 record as a major league manager. He’s already managed the Red Sox for five seasons. He was a

14-year veteran who played seven seasons for the Dodgers.
