The Ravens have lost their sack leader from last season, as outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith has officially signed
with the Green Bay Packers.
According to his representative, the deal is worth $66 million over four years and includes a $20 million signing
bonus.
Smith achieved his greatest season in 2018 with 8 ½ sacks and a career-high 45 tackles, including 10 for loss.
As one of the greatest pass rushers on the open market at the age of 26, Smith was bound to get a lot of attention in
free agency, and the Packers are determined to improve their pass rush. Green Bay apparently sought to trade for
Smith a couple seasons ago and chose to make him a top priority in free agency.
Smith’s departure adds to a busy offseason for the Ravens defense, which has already lost inside linebacker C.J.
Mosley (New York Jets), outside linebacker Terrell Suggs (Arizona Cardinals), and safety Eric Weddle (Los Angeles
Rams).
Last season, Smith made it plain that he was motivated to produce his greatest year as an upcoming free agent. He
fulfilled his promise by recording three sacks against the Tennessee Titans in October, surpassing his previous career
best of 5 ½ sacks as a rookie in 2015.
