Check out: Don’t miss: James Tavernier is expected to be traded by the…

Barry Ferguson reckons James Tavernier could be sold on a Rangers exit for Saudi riches – if he feels he’s finished at this level.

The Ibrox captain was previously linked with a potential move to Al-Ettifaq to join forces with former manager Steven Gerrard with whom he won the Premiership title back in 2021. The pair enjoyed a good working relationship and in recent days that link has reared its head again which leads Ferguson to believe there may well be truth to the rumour.

Ferguson maintains that Tavernier still has unresolved business at Gers, putting silverware on the line in front of a full house every other Saturday. However, in an interview with GO Radio, the former captain thinks Tavernier might still take the step if he decides it’s time to call it quits in Glasgow.

“It would depend on my mood,” he remarked. “You would stay at Rangers to attempt to win trophies and play in front of 50,000 supporters if you felt you could still contribute to the squad. But there’s a point at which your legs just give out, even while your head can still function.

James Tavernier still has a lot of football left in him, so I don’t think he’s at that point, but it might not present itself again. He’ll undoubtedly sit down and talk about it with his counselors before deciding what to do next.”

Ferguson continued, “The rumors that started last summer have not gone away.” Regarding the actual relocation. There must be some truth to it because they returned in January and have already surfaced again in the last few days.
