Joseph Paintsil has been strongly connected to Leeds United, and Dharmesh Sheth, a correspondent for Sky Sports, gave GIVEMESPORT an update on the matter.
The Genk forward is targeting a move to England before the summer transfer deadline expires, and he has also been linked to Burnley and Southampton.
Leeds made an offer to recruit the 25-year-old Genk midfielder that was estimated to be worth around £8.5 million, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.
According to the source, the Championship team’s offer would contain a sell-on clause to the Belgian team. Although the club and Southampton had originally reached an agreement for the swap of striker Paul Onuachu, the Ghanaian international would much rather move to the Yorkshire giants.
After a turbulent start to life back in the Championship, United manager Daniel Farke is frantically attempting to get more players in ahead of the impending transfer deadline. It was confirmed that Leeds were in early talks to sign the forward.
After drawing two of their first four games this season, Leeds will be looking to bolster their attack line with Paintsil’s 57 goal contributions (32G/25) in 143 appearances for the Belgian team.
But according to Phil Hay of The Athletic, the player and Genk are at odds about potential bonuses that could be owing to him, which has put the player’s relocation to England at a “standstill.”
In a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, Alex Crook of talkSPORT said that Leeds and Genk’s agreement had reached a “complicated” stage, raising the prospect that the forward might not receive his move after all.
