Investigation into the death of a prisoner at Brown County Jail; family requests explanations six weeks after death
The death of a 22-year-old male who was discovered unconscious in a Brown
County Jail cell in October is being looked into, according to the Brown County
Sheriff’s Office.
Green Bay resident Abdullahi Abdi-Mohammed, 22, passed away on October
29. Abdi-Mohammed “was discovered unresponsive in his single-occupancy
jail cell” at approximately 1:05 a.m., according to a news statement from the
sheriff’s office on Friday night. He was brought to Aurora BayCare Medical
Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to online jail records, that day at 1:27 a.m., Abdi-Mohammed was
released from the Brown County Jail. According to a death certificate given to
the Press-Gazette by the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Minnesota
chapter, he passed away at the hospital sixteen minutes later.
The sheriff’s office news statement was sent out two days after CAIR-
Minnesota declared that Abdi-family Mohammed’s was seeking clarification
over his death, which transpired almost six weeks ago.
There is no mention of Abdi-Mohammed’s passing in either his Department of
Corrections file or online jail logs.
The executive director of CAIR-Minnesota, Jaylani Hussein, stated that Abdi-
Mohammed’s family contacted the group to convey information about his
passing in an effort to obtain clarification.
