During Thursday’s game against the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Diontae Johnson sustained a catastrophic brain injury as a result of an illegal hit.
While making his way to the locker room, he was observed bleeding from the ear on the sidelines:
In the third quarter, Brown safety Damarious Randall smacked the helpless receiver in the helmet while Johnson was trying to catch an overthrow pass. Randall was removed after being warned for being unduly rough.
Later, the receiver’s status was listed as out due to a concussion.
After JuJu Smith-Schuster left the game due to an allegedly questionable hit from the Browns defense, he was the second receiver for the Steelers to sustain a concussion during the match.

After getting hurt against the Steelers, Titans’ Treylon Burks in Concussion Protocol, Vrabel Says
Treylon Burks, the second-year wide receiver for the Tennessee Titans, was injured during the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night. As a result, he has been placed in the concussion protocol.
“Based on the appearance, I would assume that this will be as positive a prognosis as possible,” Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters on Friday, as reported by ESPN’s Turron Davenport.
The Titans medical staff wheeled Burks out on a cart and called paramedics after he seemed to land on his head while attempting for a catch close to the sideline.
Burks was carried on a stretcher back to the changing area.
According to the program, Burks is able to move “full movement in all his extremities.”
Vrabel informed reporters Burks was “moving” and “alert” in the team’s workout area. He was described as “wobbly” on the broadcast, but he was nevertheless able to walk independently from the X-ray room to the training area.
Before getting hurt, Burks had two receptions for 23 yards. It was a fourth-down play with just over two minutes remaining, and the Titans were behind 20–16. As he was being led off the field, he raised his left hand to salute the supporters. Following a touchdown pass by rookie quarterback Will Levis, Tennessee lost the game.
