Thursday night, Alabama’s coach Kalen DeBoer welcomed another new member of his staff when ESPN’s Pete
Thamel revealed that Wisconsin’s coach and co-DC for safety It is anticipated that Colin Hitschler will join the team
in an unspecified assisting capacity.
Hitschler, who worked as a staff member from 2014 to 2017, first as a graduate assistant and then as a safeties coach,
makes him the second new coach with ties to South Alabama. From 2016 to 2017, he worked alongside Kane
Wommack, the new defensive coordinator for the Crimson Tide, before joining Cincinnati’s staff under Luke Fickell.
Hitschler started out as a quality control assistant for the Bearcats, worked his way up to senior defensive analyst,
and eventually was elevated again to coach the safeties. After Fickell was chosen head coach of the Badgers this past
season, Hitschler would follow him.
In addition, Hitschler has NFL experience having worked as a player personnel assistant for the Kansas City Chiefs
in 2010 and as a training camp assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009.
