Medical examiners determined on Friday that Jaylon Ferguson, an outside linebacker with the Baltimore Ravens,
died as a result of fentanyl and cocaine mixed.
According to a representative for the Maryland Department of Health, Ferguson’s June 21 death was determined to
be an accident. He was 26 years old.
Ferguson passed away after emergency personnel discovered him unconscious and receiving medical attention at a
house in the city’s northern neighborhood. According to Baltimore Police, there were no indications of trauma and
no suspicion of foul play.
The Ravens said in a statement released on Friday, “Our priority is focused on the man Jaylon was and the positive
impact he made on so many as a father, son, fiancé, friend, and teammate.” “It would be inappropriate for us to
comment further while we continue to support his family and teammates, who are mourning the tragic loss of a
loved one and will celebrate his life [Saturday].”
Ferguson was raised in Bains, Louisiana, and his funeral is scheduled for this coming Saturday.
Ferguson, a third-round selection by the Ravens in 2019, seemed to have lost a substantial amount of weight and put
in a lot of effort to be in the greatest form of his career. During the team’s offseason training this spring, he was
getting more involved on defense while starting outside linebackers Tyus Bowser and Odafe Oweh recovered from
surgery.
After leaving Louisiana Tech, Ferguson gained notoriety as “Sack Daddy” and now has 45 career sacks, which is the
FBS record. He recorded a total of 67 tackles and 4.5 sacks in three NFL seasons.
Ferguson is the parent of three children, Jyce, Jrea, and Demi, who are all younger than five.
It was disclosed on an internet fundraising page for the kids that Ferguson and his family had just escaped a home
fire that destroyed a lot of the kids’ possessions. “He desperately tried to put out the fire in order to save his
children’s possessions to the point where his own toes were burned in the process,” according to the post.
