NFL players that might lose out this summer due to salary cap

Leading players are cut every offseason as a result of the NFL salary cap and non-guaranteed contracts. In 2024, these 25 players might lose cap space during the offseason. The salary data is sourced from OverTheCap.com.

With just one appearance in 2023, Bakhtiari has only participated in 13 regular season games in the last three seasons. The former All-Pro’s knee problems make him unreliable moving forward, and the Packers would save over $20 million by cutting him.

Late in the season, Byard was acquired from Tennessee, but he was unable to resolve the issues plaguing the Eagles secondary. At age 31, he clearly qualifies for a cut, with cap savings exceeding $13 million.

Chubb, who spent a large portion of his tenure in Cleveland as the team’s face, had a serious knee injury early in the season. Cutting Chubb would save the organization over $12 million. Cleveland’s ability to move on and succeed without Chubb is just another evidence of how running backs aren’t as valuable as they once were.

As Arizona continues to rebuild, one of the first things to go is generally an expensive running back. By releasing Conner before his contract expires, the Cardinals may save over $5 million while also giving the young, talented Emari Demercado more playing time.

With a terrible cap situation going into the offseason, Davis might be one of the first players to offer help for New Orleans. Davis’ departure would save the Saints $12 million even though his cap hit for the upcoming season is around $13 million.

To put it mildly, Dillard’s year in Tennessee wasn’t easy. The Titans have an out for the final year of his deal, which would still save them a lot of money over the following two years even if he is bound through 2025.
