The New England Patriots have signed Michael Jordan.
However, it is not the six-time NBA champion.
Jordan has formerly played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Carolina Panthers, and Green Bay Packers. But now he’s on his way to New England, where the Patriots have signed him to a futures contract, the team said Wednesday.
The Bengals selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 draft, and he started his rookie season as the starting left guard. He appeared in 19 games throughout his first two seasons, both with Cincinnati, before being released after training camp in 2021.
The Panthers grabbed him off waivers, and he returned as their starting left guard. He started ten seasons that season and appeared in all seventeen games in 2022.
Following that season, he joined the Packers’ practice squad after being released by Carolina after training camp.
Throughout his career, he has appeared in 55 games and started 29 at left guard.
Sidy Sow, Atonio Mafi, and Jake Andrews primarily played guard on the offensive line this season. Especially when Cole Strange missed a significant amount of time due to injury, including a season-ending one in week 15. While Strange is likely to return next year, Jordan adds some depth at the position.
And with all of the offensive line injuries this season, they’ll need all the depth they can get.
The Patriots’ move also represents Jerod Mayo’s first signing as head coach.
