The coordinator carousel is already in full motion, and the Packers are expanding their search to replace Joe Barry.
While a few former Rams staffers have emerged, Sean McVay is now looking for two voices with no prior experience.
Matt LaFleur’s team has asked for permission to meet with Bills linebackers coach Bobby Babich and Cowboys
defensive line coach Aden Durde about their DC positions, according to NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo and ESPN.com’s
Todd Archer. Additionally, NFL.com’s James Palmer claims that the Packers interviewed Broncos DBs coach Christian Parker for the position on Thursday.
According to Garafolo, the Babich meeting will take place, and Durde will almost certainly interview for the position.
Teams cannot prevent this type of elevation, with the Packers’ DC handling play-calling duties due to LaFleur’s
status as an offense-oriented head coach. Following Barry’s three-year tenure, the Packers plan to appoint the third
DC of the LaFleur era.
Babich, 40, has been on Sean McDermott’s staff since the beginning. After four seasons coaching the Bills’ Micah
Hyde-Jordan Poyer duo, Bobby Babich succeeded his father, Bob, as linebackers coach. The Bills had a couple
injuries at that position this season, most notably Matt Milano’s season-ending injury in October, but Milano was
named All-Pro in the younger Babich’s first year in charge. The Packers, like the Giants, want to see him promoted.
Durde appeared on Hard Knocks in 2021 and became recognized to audiences as the British coach on Dallas’ crew.
Dan Quinn brought Durde over from Atlanta in 2021, and he has since coached the Cowboys’ defensive line. Durde,
44, has taught Micah Parsons — sort of, because Dallas refuses to classify the outstanding defender as a pure
defensive lineman — throughout his career, while supervising one of the league’s best defensive lines. This is Durde’s
first link to a DC opportunity.
Parker, 32, is regarded as a rising talent. The Patriots are also interested in the Broncos assistant for their defensive
coordinator position. Despite the fact that neither Nathaniel Hackett nor Sean Payton had hired Parker, both
retained him. Vic Fangio has coached Patrick Surtain and Justin Simmons in Denver, helping both earn All-Pro
honors. This season, the Broncos also discovered a potential long-term slot corner in Ja’Quan McMillian, who was a
rookie UDFA.
