According to multiple sources, Jay Harbaugh, safeties coach and special teams coordinator, is ready to leave Ann
Arbor to join his father Jim with the Chargers in Los Angeles.
It’s not surprising that Jay is following Jim to Los Angeles and back to the NFL, but it’s another loss for Michigan,
where Jay had spent the previous nine seasons. Harbaugh has done a little bit of everything throughout his time at
Michigan, including coaching running backs and tight ends. He recently completed his second season as safeties
coach and fourth as special teams coordinator. He’s always been regarded as a reliable recruiter who can adapt and
fill demands wherever they may be.
Sherrone Moore, the new head coach, must now cope with the departures of Jay Harbaugh, defensive coordinator
Jesse Minter, strength and conditioning coach Ben Herbert, and maybe others. He recently appeared on The Pat
McAfee Show and provided a rough timeline for making new recruits.
“The staff is staring to take shape — bit by bit — everyday,” Moore went on to say. “I think by next week or so, we’ll
have that in place.”
