The Jaguars are about to lose their passing game coordinator for the second year in a row.
For the second year in a row, a rival AFC South team has hired a Jacksonville Jaguars coach as offensive coordinator.
A year after the Colts nabbed Jim Bob Cooter, the Jaguars will lose passing game coordinator Nick Holz to the
Tennessee Titans, where he will rejoin with Brian Callahan.
Holz served as the Jaguars’ passing game coordinator in 2023, working closely with offensive coordinator Press
Taylor. Holz’s first season with the Jaguars came after he took over as passing game coordinator from Jim Bob
Cooter.
In 2023, the Jaguars’ passing offense fell short of expectations. Trevor Lawrence, the Jaguars’ quarterback, threw
fewer touchdown passes, more interceptions, took more sacks, and had a lower net yards per pass attempt than he
did in 2022 with Taylor, Cooter, and head coach Doug Pederson.
The only members of the Jaguars’ 2023 offensive staff who have not been confirmed to return are Holz, running
backs coach Bernie Parmalee, and assistant offensive line coach Todd Washington. Washington’s contract ended,
and Parmalee was fired.
“I am not a coach.” Those are questions for head coach [Doug Pederson]. When questioned about the Jaguars’
offensive concerns in 2023, general manager Trent Baalke said last week, “I think if I look at it from a big picture,
create an identity.”
“Who are we?” Offensively, defensively, and on special teams, I believe we achieved that at the end of last year; I’m
not convinced we did so this year. That’s number one: you need to have an identity. “Who are you?”
