Baltimore Ravens Tight End Mark Andrews saved a woman’s life on a plane after she struggled to breathe. The NFL
star offered his diabetic testing equipment to help.
Baltimore Ravens Tight End Mark Andrews became a real-life hero during a flight when he assisted a diabetic
woman who was battling to breathe.
On his flight from Phoenix to Baltimore, Andrews, who has Type 1 Diabetes, did not hesitate to assist when a
woman’s pulse was not detected by a doctor or nurse on the plane.
Andrew Springs, a fellow passenger who witnessed the incident, stated that Andrews volunteered his personal
diabetic testing kit to assist. Springs stated: “A man in the aisle seat asked, ‘Could it be her blood sugar?'” I have a
diabetic test kit. “It was Ravens tight end Mark Andrews.”
He went on to tell how effective Andrews was in directing medical workers to use his kit, which thankfully resulted in
the woman’s heart rate being stabilized.
When they landed, paramedics were waiting, and the woman was alert. Springs complimented Andrews: “Andrew
deplaned quietly.” There’s no fanfare. As he has done throughout his career, he stepped up in a critical moment when
people needed him the most. It’s incredibly incredible to see complete strangers come together to save someone’s
life.”
The Ravens verified the occurrence, and Andrews applauded the swift response of medical personnel on board. He
stated in a statement, “In addition to the quick-thinking flight attendants, the true heroes are the nurse and doctor
who happened to be on the plane. Fortunately, they were able to provide the woman with the immediate aid she
required.
Andrews was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of nine, and he is frequently seen monitoring his blood sugar
levels during games. This season, a teammate inquired about his condition while he was playing.
