A federal judge dismissed a criminal prosecution against Russell Douglas Warren, a Michigan man accused of threatening to kill President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, The Hill reported Saturday.
According to U.S. Magistrate Judge Patricia Morris, Warren’s words did not constitute a direct and immediate threat to physically harm the president or vice president.
Warren, 48, was charged with making threats against the president, vice president, Smithsonian institutions, Air Force One, Disney theme parks, One World Trade Center, Mount Rushmore, and other landmarks.
It was eventually discovered that he had posted hundreds of messages on X threatening various public personalities, including journalists, celebrities, Trump administration Cabinet officials, 2024 presidential hopefuls, and other politicians.
The US Secret Service recognized Warren using his IP address and detained him on Monday. The Detroit News stated that Warren was convicted of assault with a dangerous weapon in 2022.
