Despite many of Michigan’s 2024 NFL Draft candidates revealing their intentions to go pro earlier in January, one
final player made their choice on Friday. This time, Quinten Johnson, a fifth-year senior safety, revealed his decision
to enter the draft on his Instagram page.
Johnson had a career season in 2023, playing 14 games at safety and accumulating 22 tackles, one interception, and
one forced fumble. After redshirting as a freshman in 2019, Johnson has largely contributed on special teams
throughout his tenure in Ann Arbor.
While Johnson may not have played the most snaps or filled out the stat sheet, he did make some major plays when
given the opportunity. In “The Game” against Ohio State, he had a key pass breakup on receiver Emeka Egbuka. He
also caused a fumble against Jalen Milroe and Alabama in Michigan’s Rose Bowl win.
Johnson may not be ranked high on draft boards right now, but he should have a chance to reach the next level’s
roster as a special teams player. He has four years of experience playing for Jay Harbaugh, something any NFL team
would value while putting together a roster ahead of the season.
Johnson came to Michigan as part of the 2019 recruiting class. After playing high school basketball at St. John’s in
Washington, D.C., he was rated a three-star recruit by 247 Sports.
While Johnson may not be the most well-known candidate in this April’s draft, his contributions to Michigan’s
biggest games in 2023 cannot be disregarded.
