A former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Pro Bowler could find a good fit with the Dallas Cowboys.
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin predicts the Cowboys will sign Buccaneers linebacker Devin White. White, who will be a
free agency this offseason, is another accomplished linebacker available. He has not only won a Super Bowl, but he
has also been named to the Pro Bowl at the end of the 2021 season, as well as Second Team All-Pro at the end of the
2020 season.
“Physically gifted but often debated for his inconsistent angles, White should still have a sizable market because of
his upside,” Benjamin says in his article. “Dallas is never shy about adding big names.”
The 25-year-old linebacker has been one of the league’s most statistically reliable linebackers in recent seasons.
Between 2020 and 2022, White had at least 124 tackles per season. White has the tenth-most tackles in the NFL
since the 2020 season.
However, advanced analytics paint a less favorable picture of White. According to Pro Football Focus, White has
never had a defensive grade better than 51.9 in any of his five NFL seasons. Furthermore, his 46.0 defensive grade
this season, which is one of the lowest defensive grades of any starting linebacker in the NFL, was his highest in the
previous four seasons.
While PFF does not evaluate him highly, Spotrac forecasts White to earn $10.7 million per year over a two-year
contract worth $21.5 million.
The Buccaneers use a 3-4 defensive alignment, but the Cowboys employ a more traditional 4-3 defensive
configuration. Having said that, White typically plays the left inside linebacker position, thus he could play the
weakside linebacker slot in Dallas’ defense.
