New York begins to prepare for the offseason by acquiring depth at quarterback.
The New York Giants’ season ends this weekend, and the organization has signed quarterback Jacob Eason to its practice squad.
Eason was with the Giants earlier this year while Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor were on injured reserve. With Taylor back in action, the Jaguars released Eason from the practice squad but kept Matt Barkley, whom they had recently acquired when Trevor Lawrence was injured.
Taylor was designated as a limited participant on the Giants’ injury report this week due to a back ailment.
Eason is projected to be signed to a reserve/futures deal the day after the Giants’ 2023 season ends. He will have the opportunity to study the team’s system over the off-season and will be able to participate in the spring till
The Colts selected Eason in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Washington. He started his college career at Georgia, where he played the first two seasons of a three-year career before transferring to Washington after the 2017 season.
Throughout his three-year college career, Eason completed 468 of 782 passes (59.8 percent) for 5,590 yards, 39 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions.
The 6-foot-6, 231-pound Eason has played in only two NFL games, one for the Colts in 2021 and one for the Panthers in 2022. In his two professional games, he has completed five of 10 passes for 84 yards and two interceptions.
