With previous defensive coordinator Dan Quinn taking over as the new head coach of the Washington Commanders,
the Dallas Cowboys have a vacancy, which is an appealing position with the opportunity to teach standout linebacker
Micah Parsons and one of the NFL’s finest defenses.
Unfortunately, many of the top prospects for defensive coordinator have already been hired, but there are still some
choices.
One of those candidates is Mike Zimmer, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings, whom the Cowboys have already
interviewed for the available post.
According to Jonathan Jones of NFL on CBS, another option for Dallas is former Commanders head coach Ron
Rivera.
Following a historic collapse in the NFL playoffs, falling handily to the upstart Green Bay Packers at A&T Stadium in
Arlington, Texas, the Cowboys entered the summer with the expectation of some substantial adjustments.
First, it was thought that head coach Mike McCarthy was on the hot seat and would be dismissed, but that was not
the case, as he was granted a vote of confidence by the team’s leadership and retained for the next season.
Quinn was the favorite to become the Seattle Seahawks’ head coach when Pete Carroll unexpectedly took on a new
role with the organization.
As previously reported, Quinn just took a job with the Commanders, leaving some huge shoes to fill in Dallas, with
Rivera having his hands full if he gets hired by the Cowboys.
