Crystal Palace believe Cheick Doucouré may miss the remainder of the season after damaging his achilles in
Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Luton, which also saw Eberechi Eze suffer an injury setback.
Doucouré, who drew serious interest from Liverpool in the summer after being crowned Palace’s player of the year
last season, exited Kenilworth Road on crutches after being carried out on a stretcher in the 54th minute. Roy
Hodgson, Palace’s manager, said after the game that the 23-year-old “is not going to be out for a short period of
time,” and it is understood that Palace now expects him to be out for up to six months.
That means Mali international Doucouré will most likely miss the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, which begins in January.
Palace are confident that Eze’s ankle injury will not prevent the England midfielder from missing too many games, as
he has only recently returned from a month out with a hamstring ailment. Eze was injured before halftime after
colliding with Luton defender Gabriel Osho and was replaced shortly after the break.
Meanwhile, Swansea have signed former Palace and Everton winger Yannick Bolasie on a two-month contract. The
34-year-old, who has made 162 Premier League appearances, was a free agent after leaving Turkish club Caykur
Rizespor at the end of last season.
He last played in England for Middlesbrough three years ago on loan from Everton, which paid £25 million to sign
him from Selhurst Park in 2016.
