After seeing Justin Madubuike sack the quarterback in game after game, Baltimore coach John Harbaugh suspected
his defensive tackle was onto something unique.
Is there a record? Isn’t there some kind of record? Harbaugh questioned reporters this week.
Madubuike is surely closing in on one. He has contributed at least a half-sack in ten consecutive Ravens games. The
league record is 11, and he has the opportunity to tie it Sunday night at Jacksonville.
“I’m for that,” Harbaugh stated. “I want to tie the record, beat the record, and extend the record. “He is having a
fantastic season.”
Madubuike has emerged as a powerhouse in the heart of the league’s leading defense, with 49 sacks. In fact, the
Ravens are on their own amazing run, with 34 consecutive sacks and 11 straight with at least two. These are the
longest active streaks in the NFL.
Madubuike has had multiple sacks only once during his streak, on Oct. 15 against Tennessee, but his consistent
production has the potential to be historic. Jared Allen, Chris Jones, Trey Hendrickson, and Shaun Ellis are among
the players who have recorded a half-sack in 11 consecutive games. Not a bad bunch to be in.
Jones demonstrates that an interior lineman can rack up high sack numbers. His streak began in 2018, when he
recorded at least one sack in all 11 games, although Madubuike has extended his run several times with half-sacks.
The Baltimore Ravens star admits it’s easy to forget about the streak while playing.
“It’s just something that some of my teammates may mention on the sidelines,” Madubuike stated in a statement.
“But it isn’t in the forefront of my consciousness. I’m simply trying to play my game, focus on the next opponent, and
keep things simple.
