J.J. McCarthy, the University of Michigan quarterback, is busy both on and off the field. The college athlete has been
with his partner, Katya Kuropas, for almost five years.
McCarthy and Kuropas fell in love while attending high school in Illinois. The football athlete rose to prominence at
Nazareth Academy, committing to Michigan in May 2019 after being considered as one of the best quarterback
recruits ahead of his junior and senior years in high school.
McCarthy arrives at Michigan before of the 2021 season, playing behind starter quarterback Cade McNamara.
McCarthy took over as starter from McNamara during his second season in blue and maize.
“I can’t believe it’s been 4 years, my lovey,” he posted on Instagram. “We’re high school sweethearts, yet it feels like
I’ve known you since the playpen. I am blessed and deeply grateful for your kindness and pure heart. “Together,
forever, whatever life brings.”
McCarthy’s on-field success extended throughout the year, until an undefeated Michigan team lost to Texas
Christian University in the College Football Playoff on December 31, 2022. The next year, McCarthy and Michigan
returned to the College Football Playoff, defeating Alabama in the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day. They beat the
University of Washington in the finals on January 8, 2024.
