The 2024 offseason could be one of the most significant for the Baltimore Ravens in recent years. Following a 17-10
loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, the Ravens now face the issue of improving the club
while dealing with a shrinking cap.
Glenn Erby, a contributor for USA Today’s Ravens Wire, writes about how the Ravens could free up cap space this
offseason. Erby’s most cost-effective move would be, “Post June 1 Cut—Ronnie Stanley.”
According to Erby, removing the starting left tackle after June 1 may save the Ravens “$15,000,000.” Erby points out
that this deal would still result in a $11 million dead cap charge, but it may be time for the Ravens to move on.
Over The Cap reports that the Ravens presently have only roughly $7.3 million in cap space. Clearing $15 million
would allow the Ravens more options in addressing their issues during the offseason.
Stanley has suffered numerous injuries over the last five years. Erby said, “He played seven games between the 2020
and 2021 seasons and missed five in 2022.”
The injury-plagued tackle’s woes continued this year. “In 2023, Stanley missed four games, dealt with injuries
throughout this season, and spent the final stretch on a pitch count,” according to Erby.
The pitch count refers to the end of the season, when fellow tackle Morgan Moses and Stanley were rotated to protect
their health.
