With his wife in Portugal, the midfielder has been unable to see his family because traveling there would have
resulted in missed matches owing to quarantine restrictions.
Instead, he was on FaceTime with his wife after sitting on the bench for the Crystal Palace game, but Neves accepts
the sacrifice and tells WolvesTV it’s just part of his work.
He stated, “I watched it on my phone on the coach as we were returning from Crystal Palace.”
‘To be honest, it is quite difficult. It’s difficult not to be present at an amazing event for my family.
Of course, I wanted to be there, but that is the reality we live in right now. So we have to get used to it. We must do
everything possible to resolve issues since we are in serious trouble.
‘My wife traveled to Portugal because her doctor is from there. She had issues with our first child, so we always want
to see the same doctor. That’s why we decided to have the kid in Portugal.
‘I assumed I’d be able to leave right away, but it turns out I needed to stay because if I leave, I’ll have to miss two or
three games when I return. It is my job, so I would rather stay here.
‘I assist my family as much as I can from here. And I am confident that they will join me shortly.
The Portuguese international returned to Wolves’ starting lineup against Arsenal on Tuesday night, aiding his team
to a 2-1 victory that ended an eight-game winless streak in the Premier League.
After David Luiz was sent off for pulling down William Jose, Neves scored a penalty to tie the game, and Joao
Moutinho put Wolves ahead after the break.
After scoring his third goal of the season, Neves celebrated in honor of the newest member of his family.
The 23-year-old has been a regular in Wolves’ midfield this season, with his absence from the Premier League
encounter against Crystal Palace last week being the first of the season.
