Bamford, 30, is back in form after scoring four goals since the turn of the year, regaining his spot in the starting lineup at Elland Road and hitting big goals, including a worldie in the FA Cup.
But in the second half of last season, Bamford went from hero to nothing. He scored the first goal in a 5-1 loss to Palace, which many believe marked the end of our chances of avoiding relegation.
We had already beaten Forest in the game. That was our last victory, as we went on to lose nine consecutive games. Bamford, who has previously endured multiple injuries, missed a penalty in a 2-2 home draw with Newcastle.
He had already disabled Twitter following a missed opportunity against Leicester in the last minutes. Following the penalty miss, Leeds fans confronted Bamford at his home, and he received death threats.
Not just him, but his entire family. It provoked a response from the club, which criticized the reaction of a group of supporters who chose to act as they did. Regardless of the circumstances, this is completely unfair.
On his My Mate’s A Footballer podcast with comic Joe Wilkinson, Bamford discussed the events of that day, following his penalty miss. He describes how supporters waited outside his residence.
Not only that, but his spouse Michaela felt insecure in their own home: “The scenario Leeds were in was quite horrible; we looked like we were going down, and we eventually did. I was on Twitter, but not actively tweeting, until about mid-March. The assault became so severe that it threatened my little girl.
“In the end, I quit Twitter and canceled my account. I spoke with David [psychologist], who told me to just ignore it and given me coping strategies.
