Unfortunately, a former member of the Michigan football family has died.
Mister Simpson, a running back from Cincinnati (Ohio) Colerain who played for the Wolverines in 2005 and 2006 before returning home to Cincinnati, has died, according to Twitter.
Simpson, a three-star running back at the time of his pledge, redshirted his first year in Ann Arbor and had two runs for 11 yards in 2006, according to Sports Reference. He also made two tackles that season. Both of his carries came in Week 2 of the 2006 season against Central Michigan, and he recorded tackles later in the season against Indiana and Ohio State in the ‘game of the century’.
Simpson never saw substantial action after moving to Cincinnati, and he apparently got into legal trouble.
Currently, no cause of death has been reported. Simpson was 36 years old.

In 2020, the NFL implemented a new rule to reward teams who develop minorities in coaching and front-office positions. The rule states that if a minority coach or executive is hired away to become the head coach or general manager of another team, the team that developed that coach or executive would receive two third-round compensatory selections. It has been a beneficial rule for the 49ers.
