DJ Tiesto, a Dutch music producer, has withdrawn from performing at Sunday’s Super Bowl due to an unspecified family problem.
Tiesto, whose real name is Tijs Verwest, announced on social media on Thursday that he would miss the San Francisco 49ers’ game against the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas because he needed to return home..
“It was a tough decision to miss the game, but family always comes first,” the 55-year-old posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Tiesto did not disclose information on the emergency. He married model Annika Backes in 2019; they have two children.
According to his website, his performances on Friday evening in New York and Saturday evening in Las Vegas, where the Super Bowl will be staged, have not been canceled. Tiesto stated in his message that he would need to travel home “on Sunday”.
