Football Insider reported over the weekend that the Peacocks were willing to listen to bids for Italy international Gnonto once the winter market opened in a little over two weeks, despite the fact that he had only appeared in a few games for the club this season under head coach Daniel Farke.
During the summer, Serie A giants Lazio and AS Roma competed with Premier League side Everton for the Italian’s signature after the attacker requested a transfer earlier in the window. However, no deal was reached, as Leeds demanded £25 million for his services.
Nonetheless, after only 671 minutes of football for the Yorkshire squad, the club appears to be ready to sell Gnonto in
the coming weeks.
According to Turkish site Fanatik (via Turkish Football), Leeds United are now looking to sign Galatasaray player
Kerem Akturkoglu, who may be the ideal alternative for Gnonto.
The 25-year-old has been a vital player for the Super Lig champions this season under manager Okan Buruk,
contributing 15 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, including seven goals and eight assists.
Akturkoglu, like Gnonto, can play anywhere along the frontline, even as a centre-forward, and his equalising goal
against Leeds’ rivals Manchester United in the Champions League a few weeks ago helped the Turkish giants secure
a Europa League spot.
Transfermarkt estimates the playmaker’s current market value at £14.7 million, despite the fact that the Turkey
international still has three years left on his current contract.
