Following Monday’s announcement that starting running back Carlos Hyde, cornerback Bradley Roby, and a pair of
freshmen were in legal trouble, Ohio State supporters were desperate for a break from the negative publicity.
Who would have believed that Michigan coach Brady Hoke would be the one to offer that refuge?
According to NBC’s Columbus affiliate, Hoke made a kind gesture to Ohio State fan Grant Reed, who is 12 years old.
Reed, who was diagnosed with cancer less than two years ago, recently made news when it was revealed that he
called his brain tumor “Michigan.” Reed, a lifelong Buckeyes supporter and the son of two former members of the
university band, expressed his hatred for Michigan as
Reed effectively defeated “Michigan” when he finished his final treatment two weeks ago.
The news reached Hoke, who was understandably happy to learn that “Michigan” had been defeated. The
Wolverines’ head coach reached out to the Reed family, offering encouragement as well as an incredible opportunity.
Instead of watching Ohio State’s game versus Michigan from home this November, Hoke urged the Reed family to
attend in person by offering them four complimentary tickets. According to Eleven Warriors, the Rotary Club of
Jackson, Michigan, has also offered to pay for any lodging expenses incurred by the Reed family.
