The Dallas Cowboys need to find a running back, and that could mean signing a feisty Baltimore Ravens player. Gus
Edwards has had a strong start to his NFL career, but he is eligible for free agency and needs a new team.
SI.com’s Timm Hamm recently discussed Edwards’ future and said the Cowboys made sense as a candidate. While
Edwards is a terrific player, Hamm refers to a prospective signing as a “steal” because of his predicted contract
amounts.
“The Cowboys may be interested in Ravens running back Gus Edwards as a substitute for Pollard. “After Ezekiel
Elliott’s departure, Edwards could be just the guy to bring some physicality back to the rushing game,” Hamm wrote
on February 12. “And Edwards may be really valuable as well. According to Spotrac.com, Edwards’ open market
worth is roughly $4.5 million, which is a tremendous steal given his productivity capabilities.
The Cowboys could do much worse than Edwards, and they’re unlikely to get a better running back at that price.
Edwards has proven to be a formidable weapon in a two-RB system, capable of carrying the weight as a lead back.
Injuries are never good, but they do create opportunities for other players. That was exactly what occurred to J.K.
Dobbins and Edwards. Dobbins tore his Achilles in Week 1, therefore Edwards did not accept the backup job as
expected.
