Celebrities and fellow athletes have paid tribute, with many expressing astonishment at his unexpected passing. There have been moments of quiet during basketball games around the United States.

Bryant was also commemorated during the Grammy Awards, which took place on Sunday night at the Staples Center, the home of the Los Angeles Lakers.

“We’re all feeling crazy sadness right now,” remarked host Alicia Keys. “Because earlier today, Los Angeles, America, and the entire world lost a hero.” We are literally standing here, devastated, in the house Kobe Bryant constructed.”

The NBA said it was “devastated by the tragic passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna” in a statement.

“For 20 seasons, Kobe showed us what is possible when remarkable talent blends with an absolute devotion to winning,” according to the report.

Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the helicopter’s manifest indicated nine persons were on board when it crashed, up from five in previous assertions by officials.

Coroners have not formally identified the victims. However, family relatives and coworkers confirmed that John Altobelli, coach of the Orange Coast College basketball team, was among the passengers, along with his wife Keri and their 13-year-old daughter Alyssa, who played with Bryant’s daughter Gianna.

Christina Mauser, Gianna’s basketball coach, was also on board, according to her husband’s Facebook post.
