Lovett gained 496 yards from scrimmage in ten games this spring. He spent much of last year with the Carolina
Panthers of the National Football League. Lovett, who signed with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent in May
2022, led the team in rushing and receiving yards through three preseason games. However, he was released from
the final roster and spent the entire season on and off Carolina’s practice squad.
Lovett (6-0, 209) played just one season at Penn State, totaling 177 running yards and 36 receiving yards in nine
games in 2021. He had spent the previous four seasons at Baylor, collecting 1,803 rushing yards, 29 receptions, and
15 touchdowns.
The Steelers were not to announce the signing as of Monday evening. An injured reserve designation for rookie
running back Alfonzo Graham appears to be the next logical roster move. Graham departed Saturday’s practice with
a shoulder injury and was wearing a sling on his right shoulder Sunday. On Monday, a social media post attributed to
him stated that he had a torn labrum and will be out for the season.
“I promise, the comeback will be amazing. I have incredible talent. God wasn’t ready for the world to see yet. See you
in 2024,” Graham wrote.
Graham, who previously played for Morgan State, was signed following a tryout during rookie minicamp.
The Steelers also had an available roster space on Monday following the surprising retirement of rookie fullback
Monte Pottebaum.
The Steelers got a day off Monday and will return to Chuck Noll Field at Saint Vincent on Tuesday for their first
padded, full-contact session of training camp.
