The Jacksonville Jaguars did not perform well in their first Monday Night Football game since 2011. Prior to this game, the Jaguars defense was a steadfast force for the squad. The Cincinnati Bengals exposed the Jaguars defense all night, even with a backup quarterback. In his second start, Jake Browning completed 32 of 37 passes for 354 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions. But Browning’s appearance as a Hall of Famer for one night was far from the worst thing that occurred to the Jaguars. That
Trevor Lawrence’s right ankle issue deserves special mention. He was stepped on by left tackle Walker Little, fell down instantly, smashed his helmet to the ground, and had to be assisted off the field.
Christian Kirk’s injury against the Bengals could be the worst of all. Kirk is on IR, and many feel he will not return for the playoffs. Kirk is the Jags’ best receiver. He makes important plays and has a connection with Lawrence that no one else on the team does. He is one of the best slot receivers in the NFL, and when he is on his game, he opens up the entire offense. Kirk will be missed, and the squad can only hope he returns before January.
