Ray Lewis III, the son of two-time Super Bowl champion Ray Lewis, died on Wednesday from a suspected overdose,
according to authorities.
Lewis, 28, was discovered unconscious in a bedroom of a Casselberry, Fla. residence, according to the Casselberry
Police Department. Officers were called to the home after a person inside called.
An officer came as someone in the house was performing CPR on Lewis. A second person informed the officer that
Lewis need the opioid-overdose antidote naloxone, which the officer delivered with Narcan, according to the police
report.
The antidote and subsequent life-saving attempts were failed. According to police, Lewis was taken to the hospital
and pronounced dead.
According to the police investigation, evidence and witness testimony indicate that the incident was a terrible
accident.
“The evidence and witness accounts show this incident to be a tragic accident,” police stated in a statement.
His father, Ray Lewis, is a Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker who played for the Baltimore Ravens from 1996 to
2012.
“Really can’t believe I’m even typing this, but RIP big brother,” Rahsaan Lewis added.
Ray Lewis III was survived by his parents, Ray and Judy Lewis, and two brothers, Rahsaan and Donovan.
Lewis’ death is the latest in a string of high-profile overdoses in the NFL. Junior Seau, a former Baltimore Ravens
standout and Lewis’ teammate, committed suicide in 2016 after suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy
(CTE), a degenerative brain illness linked to repeated head blows.
