Dalvin Cook, a free agency running back, signed with the New York Jets in August with hopes of winning a Super
Bowl. He seems to have a greater chance of getting a ring with his new team.
Cook signed with the Baltimore Ravens after going unclaimed on waivers this week, NFL Network Insider Tom
Pelissero said on Thursday.
On Friday afternoon, Baltimore officially announced Cook’s addition to the team’s practice squad.
Cook will not play in the Ravens’ Week 18 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Saturday. Instead, he’ll spend
time on the practice squad, getting ready for Baltimore’s first postseason game on either January 20 or 21. The
Ravens earned the AFC’s top playoff seed, a wild-card weekend bye, and will host a Divisional Round game.
The Jets and Cook agreed to part ways earlier this week, capping a disappointing season for the four-time Pro Bowl
running back who signed a hefty one-year contract with the Jets.
Cook had averaged 1,254 rush yards per year and 43 rushing touchdowns in his previous four seasons with the
Minnesota Vikings, so the Jets appeared to be adding some late firepower to their offense at the time of the deal.
However, his late start and poorly defined position, along with Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending injury in Week 1,
doomed the running back’s first season away from Minnesota.
Cook carried the ball 67 times for 214 yards in 15 games (one start) with the Jets, with a 14-yard long run. He also
grabbed 15 passes totaling 78 yards. Cook failed to score a touchdown in New York after scoring 52 in his first six
NFL seasons.
The Ravens have suffered big backfield injuries for the second consecutive season, losing J.K. Dobbins after only one
game in 2023 and rookie Keaton Mitchell to season-ending injuries. They presently have Gus Edwards, Justice Hill,
and another former Pro Bowl running back, Melvin Gordon, who scored his first touchdown of the season in Week
17’s victory over the Dolphins after seeing little action earlier in the season.
