Following the end of the Super Bowl on Sunday, more clubs, including the Jacksonville Jaguars, are formally
finishing their future contract negotiations. On Tuesday, the AFC South team signed 14 players, with one name
standing out in particular. According to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ official Twitter handle (also known as X), the team
has signed tight end Josh Pederson, the son of head coach Doug Pederson, to a futures contract.
The Jaguars also reached agreements with kicker Riley Patterson, wide receiver Seth Williams, and defensive back
Erick Hallett, among others. Patterson made 89% of his kicks last season with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit
Lions, while Williams was on the Jaguars’ practice squad in 2023. Meanwhile, Hallett was named to the All-ACC
Second Team by the Pittsburgh Panthers in 2022 before joining the Jaguars.
Josh Pederson, the son of Super Bowl-winning coach and current Jacksonville Jaguars bench coach Doug Pederson,
will sign a futures contract with his father’s organization on Tuesday. Between 2017 and 2020, the younger Pederson
played tight end for the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks. After two underwhelming seasons to begin his college career,
Pederson exploded for 43 catches and 567 yards in 2019. He caught nine touchdown passes. The 6-foot-5, 235-
pound playmaker shone against top-tier opposition, recording 16 receptions, 207 yards, and four touchdowns
against Memphis, Iowa State, and Florida State. However, as a senior, he saw a drop in performance, with 32 catches
for 367 yards and no scores.
Pederson was not taken in the 2021 NFL draft and signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent. The 49ers
dismissed the New Jersey native in early August, before he signed with the New Orleans Saints. However, less than a
month later, the Saints released Pederson. After a brief run with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022, he signed with the
Houston Gamblers of the USFL. Pederson finished the season with 24 receptions for 325 yards in ten games.
