Jerry Mack has officially left Tennessee’s on-field staff to join the Jacksonville Jaguars this morning. Mack was the
running backs coach under Josh Heupel for the previous three seasons.
According to various sources, an offer was made on Friday and is now finalized.
Mack joined the Tennessee staff in 2021. He formerly served as North Carolina Central’s head coach and Rice’s
offensive coordinator. Mack was instrumental in the development of Jabari Small, Jaylen Wright, and Dylan
Sampson while at Tennessee. He also assisted in the recruitment of Cam Seldon and Peyton Lewis, both four-star
talents.
Since moving to Knoxville, Heupel has experienced little personnel churn. He lost receivers coach Kodi Burns to the
NFL in 2021, and offensive coordinator Alex Golesh left to become the head coach at South Florida in 2022. Both
positions were filled internally within the program. Will Heupel go outside this time? It remains to be seen.
Expect certain names to emerge as candidates during the following few days.
