The Jacksonville Jaguars are taking tiny but crucial moves toward returning to the playoffs.
As the Jaguars prepare for free agency and the draft, one of the necessary moves was completed today, when the
team formally signed 14 players to reserve/future contracts.
A Reserve/Futures contract allows a team to claim a player’s rights when they build their 90-man roster for OTAs
and training camp. These contracts are often around the minimum compensation corresponding with the player’s
experience and are not guaranteed.
With that in mind, here are the 14 players that inked contracts to stay with the Jaguars over the summer and training
camp.
The most notable names on this list are a few of veterans who have previously played regular-season games with the
Jaguars, including Chandler Brewer, Tevaughn Campbell, and De’Shaan Dixon.
The team also includes tight end Josh Pederson, the son of head coach Doug Pederson. Pederson spent the season on
the practice squad, but he did play in a few games when Brenton Strange was hurt.
The trades also bring back former Jaguars kicker Riley Patterson, who was dealt to the Detroit Lions last offseason
after the Jaguars signed Brandon McManus. McManus is slated to become a free agent in March.
The list’s only draft pick is Erick Hallett, who the Jaguars selected in the sixth round a year ago before being placed
on the practice squad for the entirety of the 2023 season.
