Williams is likely to serve as the Raiders’ running backs coach, following the Raiders’ original pursuit of UCLA

running backs coach DeShaun Foster, who was promoted to head coach after Chip Kelly departed UCLA to become

Ohio State’s offensive coordinator.

Williams will serve as the Raiders’ running backs coach, much as he did at Auburn from 2019 to 23.

Former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn hired Williams as the running backs coach, and both former head coach

Bryan Harsin and current head coach Hugh Freeze kept him in that position.

Shortly after Freeze arrived at Auburn in November 2022, Williams was promoted to assistant head coach, a position

he held for the entire 2023 season before announcing his resignation on the evening of January 11.

“After taking time to pray and reflect, I have made the decision to resign from my position with Auburn football to

pursue other opportunities,” Williams said in a statement that night.

“I adore Auburn, the players, and the AU family, but this decision is best for me, my wife, and our sons. I am

tremendously appreciative for the coaching opportunities provided to me by Coach Malzahn and, most recently,

Coach Freeze. “The last five years on the Plains have been nothing short of incredible.”
