Two years of College Football Playoff disappointments have led to a remarkable celebration for Michigan.
First, the Wolverines defeated Alabama 27-20 in an exciting overtime game at the Rose Bowl. They won the national
championship by defeating Washington 34-13 on Monday night, capping off a 15-0 season.
For the first time in 26 exciting seasons, Michigan is at the top of the college football rankings.
However, the offseason begins now. The primary story is whether head coach Jim Harbaugh will return to Ann Arbor
or take a position in the NFL. That final decision could have a significant impact on the appearance of Michigan’s
team in 2024.
The next sections—who is remaining, going, and on their way—are a mix of estimates and reported/confirmed plans.
Any rating is subjective, but Colston Loveland should have a good claim for being the greatest in his position in
2024. During the regular season, he caught 40 passes for 572 yards (a strong 14.3-yard average) and four
touchdowns, earning first-team All-Big Ten recognition from the league’s coaches.
Loveland joined the University of Michigan as part of the 2022 recruiting class, during which the coaching staff
performed well in defensive evaluations. Will Johnson, an elite cornerback, has lived up to his 5-star billing, while
guards Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, edge-rusher Derrick Moore, and safety Keon Sabb also contribute
significantly. Add linebacker Ernest Hausmann, who transferred from Nebraska last offseason, and the defense has a
solid foundation for 2024.
At this time, it appears like Jim Harbaugh will eventually return to the NFL. He has a terrific situation in Ann Arbor,
and it appears he is eager to scratch that Super Bowl itch—provided the perfect opportunity arises. Could it be the
Los Angeles Chargers? Would the Chicago Bears, despite their recent winning streak, hire their old quarterback? We
will find out soon.
