The New York Giants, founded in 1925, are one of the oldest franchises in NFL history. Throughout their long
history, they have inducted 32 people into the Hall of Fame. Many of them appear on this list. Let’s take a look at the
greatest players in the Big Apple.
This ranking was compiled by calculating each player’s Approximate Value, a Pro Football Reference statistic that
“puts a single number on the seasonal value of a player at any position from any year,” according to their website.
Awards, statistics, and records were all evaluated. Let’s get to it!
Taylor, the greatest defensive player in history, was selected second overall in the 1981 NFL Draft. The outside
linebacker could stop the run, play coverage, and rush the quarterback. He is the last defensive player to earn NFL
MVP. Overall, he received three Defensive Player of the Year titles, was named Defensive Rookie of the Year, and led
the Giants to two Super Bowl victories (1986, 1990).
Manning was born to a football household. His older brother is Peyton, and Archie is his father. He was picked first
overall by the San Diego Chargers but refused to play for them, therefore he was dealt to New York in exchange for
Philip Rivers. Manning, a member of the renowned 2004 quarterback draft class, has four Pro Bowl appearances and
was named Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2016. He memorably defeated Tom Brady and the New England
Patriots twice in the Super Bowl. The David Tyree helmet catch will go down in NFL history forever.
