Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel expects quarterback Joe Milton to play against South Carolina despite a left
knee injury.
“Joe has been good and feels good. “He was with us today,” Heupel remarked during his press conference on
Monday. “So I anticipate him being ready to go play really well (against South Carolina).”
A snapshot circulating on social media claimed to show Milton at the UT Medical Center on Sunday. Heupel
acknowledged the photo, but stated that it was a precautionary visit.
“I know there’s a picture out there,” Heupel remarked. “But for us, routinely on Sundays we’re going to make sure
that our players are healthy.”
The No. 19 Vols (3-1, 0-1 SEC) face South Carolina (2-2, 1-1) on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, SEC Network) at Neyland
Stadium.
Milton grasped his left knee after becoming awkwardly bent during the second quarter of UT’s 45-14 victory over
UTSA last week. After a few moments, he rose to his feet and went slowly along the sideline.
Milton returned to the game with a knee brace, but he didn’t play the same way.
Before the injury, Milton completed 14 of 19 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns. But he went 4-of-12 for 53
yards after that. He also scored an 81-yard touchdown run on the first play from scrimmage. However, he did not
attempt a rush following the injury.
Milton’s mobility did not appear to be hindered at the postgame press conference.
