Charles Omenihu, a defensive star for the San Francisco 49ers, was arrested on accusations of domestic assault only
days before his team’s Super Bowl matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
On Monday, police were called to Omenihu’s San Jose residence, and he was arrested for misdemeanor domestic
violence in Santa Clara County. San Jose police said that he had been released after posting bail.
When authorities arrived at Omenihu’s house, a woman told them that he is her boyfriend and reportedly ‘pushed
her to the ground during an altercation’. According to a police news release, she denied medical assistance after
complaining about arm pain, despite the fact that ‘officers did not witness any evident physical damage’.
Omenihu remained at the scene when policemen arrived and later provided a statement to police. Police also got an
emergency protective order for the woman and served it to the 49ers star.
Police said that the results of the current investigation will be given to the Santa Clara County District Attorney for
consideration of potential charges against Omenihu. No other information was shared.
Omenihu has been a significant member of the 49ers’ defense, totaling four and a half sacks heading into the NFC
Championship Game on Sunday in Philadelphia. The 49ers issued a statement on Tuesday stating, “We are aware of
the matter involving Charles Omenihu and are in the process of gathering further information.”
